Marine Professional Training - Level 1

Certified by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), this is a basic introduction to navigation and safety for anyone new to boating: sailors, powerboaters, sea anglers, divers and boatmasters. Also useful for experienced dinghy and keelboat sailors and inshore racers.  Additional course material will be delivered from AMS 175 (Introduction to Seamanship) and AMS 176 (Chart Reading and Basic Navigation I)

Fundamentals of Marine Service Technology, offered by the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC), provides an overview of boat parts identification and safety practices and covers the fundamental principles of electrical, engine drive, electronics, and plumbing systems. Chapters and topics are sequenced to build a comprehensive understanding of marine vessel parts, systems, and operation. Quick Response (QR) codes throughout the book allow access to online explanatory videos that demonstrate key operation concepts and required maintenance skills. Multiple-choice questions at the end of each chapter allow assessment of progress for self-study. Part of the Fundamentals of Marine Service Technology Program, which leads to certification through the ABYC.
