The purpose of this course is to off er the
prospective teacher guidelines in preparing
and developing innovative teaching aids as
instructional resources in the classroom. The
eff ective use of audio-visual equipment will also
be explored. It also provides the teacher with
computer skills, which will be applicable to all
areas of the school’s curriculum, thus helping
them to increase productivity and effi ciency.

This course is designed to expose students to several theories in Curriculum Development and Instruction. It also seeks to enable students to write appropriate instructional objectives, select relevant experiences and activities for students at various ages, and to plan and execute instruction so that retention and transfer are maximised.

This course aims to: (1) provide students with an understanding of theories and practices related to language arts teaching and learning with attention to the special language context of the Caribbean. (2) Introduce students to a variety of approaches and strategies for teaching language arts in Caribbean classrooms. (3) Develop students’ skills in language teaching with some focus on integrating traditional as well as contemporary technology in their classroom activities.

This course is designed to examine the
philosophical and historical bases of education,
with special emphasis on the history of education
in the British Virgin Islands and the Caribbean
region. From these bases conclusions are drawn
for today’s classroom. (Prerequisite: ENG 104)

This course is designed to help you improve your teaching through better assessment techniques. During the first part of the course, we will focus on the bases for assessment in the classroom. In the second part of the course, we will concentrate on how to craft and use classroom assessments. There will be field experiences where you work on building your competence to assess students. Throughout the course, you will be learning to assess student outcomes in a supportive instructional environment that will provide you with opportunities to ask questions and contribute ideas for investigation or discussion in order to build your competence and confidence in educational assessment of students. You will also be given time for guided reflection and class discussion for you to analyze your own learning.

This course provides an overview of effective teaching methods and instructional strategies for secondary school educators. Participants will explore a range of techniques to engage students, manage classrooms, and assess learning outcomes. This course includes practical applications, case studies, and collaborative activities to enhance teaching skills and promote learner success. In this course students are expected to spend a minimum of 5 hours in the classroom participating in micro-teaching.

This course aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand the nature and process of reading. Students will become aware of the importance of reading as it relates to learning in other subject areas and life in general. They will be exposed to a variety of strategies to teach reading and its related components. They will also have opportunities to diagnose pupils’ reading ability and apply the skills and knowledge learnt through micro-teaching activities.

This course provides an engaging, hands-on exploration of foundational math concepts tailored for future elementary school teachers. Topics include number systems, operations, proportional reasoning, algebraic thinking, statistics, probability, and geometry. The course emphasizes problem-solving, conceptual understanding, and reflective teaching practices.

The course addresses both the content and methodological issues that arise in the everyday teaching of elementary science. Teachers are challenged to keep abreast of real-life science developments, to adopt a hands-on approach to science teaching, and to explore science with their students, mindful of the misconceptions that students bring to and take from the classroom.

This course is designed to enable students to understand the meaning and purpose of Social Studies and the changing definitions and goals of the subject in light of educational development for the twenty-first century. It is also designed to give students a complex understanding of the LOGO_CC H. The intention is to provide students with the academic background required to teach Social Studies, and includes the local context.
